A shadow can tell you a lot. Time of day is just one thing. When you are drawing the plant it can give you an idea of the structure of the plant.
An ordinary red bell pepper becomes (Extra)ordinary when given center stage. The home-grown pepper is not perfect in color or shape, but that gives it a unique and more dramatic presentation. Very little space at the top forces the viewer to overlook the bright red color and refocus on the dark diagonal shadow.
